Grades, Passing Grade, Semester and Cumulative averages
1- Grades are recorded in percentages, letters, and points, as follows:
Percentage | Letters | points
From 90 to less than 100 | a | A | 4 |
From 85 to less than 90 | b+ | B+ | 3.5 |
From 80 to less than 85 | N | B | 3 |
From 75 to less than 80 | c+ | C+ | 2.5 |
From 70 to less than 75 | N | C | 2 |
From 65 to less than 70 | D+ | D+ | 1.5 |
From 60 to less than 65 | Dr | D | 1 |
less than 60 | h | E | 0 |
2. The passing grade for each course is (D) letter; (1) point or (60) percent. Any student who gets (E) in the course (ie less than sixty), actually gets (Zero) point. Therefore, s\he fails, and s\he must study the course again in the next semester or the following semesters.
3. Grade descriptions of semester and cumulative averages for the bachelor of sharia and bachelor of law programs, are as follows:
points | Letters | Description
From 3.6 to 4 | a | A | excellent |
From 3 to less than 3.6 | b, b + | B,B+ | very good |
From 2 to less than 3 | c, c+ | C,C+ | Good |
From 1 to less than 2 | d+, d | D,D+ | Acceptable |
less than 1 | h | E | weak |
4-Semester and cumulative averages are calculated by multiplying the points of each course by the number of its credit hours, then dividing the sum of the multiplication by the total number of credit hours for the total courses, as the following example:
Subject | Class | points | Credit hours | Total |
Modern Literature | N | 3 | 1 | 3 |
Foundations of Jurisprudence | b+ | 3.5 | 3 | 10.5 |
Civil Law | c+ | 2.5 | 3 | 7.5 |
Banks | N | 2 | 2 | 4 |
Total | 9 | 25 |
Semester or Cumulative Average: 25/ 9= 2.77 point= C+= Good
5- The semester average is the average of all the courses that a student studied in the semester whether s\he passed or failed them, provided that the credit hours for these courses are not less than the minimum for a full semester, which is (17) credit hours for the Bachelor of Sharia program , and (18) credit hours for the Bachelor of Law program.
6. The cumulative average is the average of all the courses that a student studied from the beginning until the date of calculating the average, whether s\he passed or failed the course.
7. The cumulative average for Law or Sharia students shall not be less than (2) two points (70%) in order to avoid the academic warning, the compulsory transfer or final dismissal, and guarantee their right to graduate.
8. The first honor degree will be awarded to the student whose GPA, when graduated, is not less than (4) points. The second honor degree will be awarded to the student whose GPA is between (3.6) and less than (4) points.
9. The names of students who get semester averages (3.6) points or above will be ordered according to their points on the honor list of the college throughout the next semester.
